Well, at least it seems that the "normal" ipods are not yet fubar'ed by the new hash. So it seems the new hash is still only used on the new "ipod touch" and iphone with software version 2.x. Thank you very much for the information. BTW: I just discovered that debian lenny contains a 0.99.7 package named "gnupod-tool" that should work on ubuntu too.
