I'm not sure if this is a safety feature, a result of development history (gnupod_INIT was probably mostly done before the support for config files was added) or really a bug. I see that there is a commit in 2004 that added this line: + #gnupod_INIT does not read configuration files! and has "- Configfile support" in the commit description. So I guess Adrian left it out for a reason. I will not invest time as it seems a minor inconvenience, but thank you for the information!
