I don't get this error, at least not using the latest CVS versions of
these libraries, although nothing should have changed from 0.9.0

This was compiling using cygwin bash for mingw (According to the
README.MingW)

Perhaps you can email the entire compile line, since those defines
should be there 
(i.e. gcc ... -DGNUSTEP_TARGET_CPU...)
