I cant remember where the official download places are, but you can just grab my set from http://toybox.twisted.org.uk/~pete/art.fonts.tar.gz and unpack it in your home directory and it will give you a nicely populated set of fonts in ./GNUstep/Library/Fonts - the download is about 9MB. I really y think some default fonts should be shipped with GNUstep and if the freetype issues can be worked out that art should be the default backend.
