I seriaously doubt that the original summary of this bug was accurate since,
while I don't use FFI myself, I'm aware that others use it without problems. 
I've therefore changed the summary.

Given that you have one machine with it working and one without, I guess that
it's a problem with configuration or specific libraries on one system.  Most
likely anyone trying to track this down will need to see the results of the
configure script from when you configured the base library on the problem
machine.

I hope someone more familiar with FFI than I am can pick this up for you.
