Follow-up Comment #2, bug #13688 (project gnustep):
It was definitely an install issue. I was running the application in place
before installing it - not a good idea where there are a number of library
dependencies.
In a perfect world with correctly versioned native frameworks and a
system-wide framework management environment this would work, I suppose.
My apologies for the spurious bug report, and many thanks for the help!
