Follow-up Comment #1:
The # character is there to show that you will have to press the ALT key
together with the shortcut character. Up to then GNUstep only displayed the
shortcut character itself. This was fine as long as you only could use ALT as
a modifier. But after that had been fixed and any modifier was now possible we
needed an indocation of which modifier (if any at all) was needed.
In a discussion on the mailing list we reached an agreement that the current
version with #, ^ and + as symbols for the modifier are ugly, but no better
idea was brought forward or implemented. The best idea was to use Unicode
characters that look like the symbols used by Apple. What speaks against this
idea is that most fonts wont support this characters.
If you see any solution to the problem your implementation will be greatly
welcomed.
