Hello GNUzilla people, this is my first email to this list so I'll introduce myself. My name is Leonardo De Luca and my nickname is leo_rockway, I'm a gNewSense user and I wrote a Python script to automate the process of creating localized xpi files for GNU IceCat [0]. I had previously announced my script in identi.ca and in #icecat @ freenode.
Now, I have been talking with someone from the VENENUX GNU/Linux distro and he told me of a bug he found in GNU IceCat. This is the way to replicate the bug: 0) Open a site that needs Java; you can use [1] as an example). 1) A bar pops up on top. The bar says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." and there's a button: "Install Missing Plugins...". There's also a box in the page that says "Click here to download plugin." in the position where the Java applet would be. 2) Either click on the top button or in the box with the "Click here to download plugin." (the result is the same). 3) The plugin finder service pops up and informs that "No suitable plugins were found." There's sa link the bottom of that popup that says "Find out more about Plugins or manually find missing plugins.". Clicking on that link directs you to [2] which then redirects you to [3]. 4) As you can see, that page offers some nasty plugins: "Adobe Reader", "Adobe Flash Player", "Java", "QuickTime", "RealPlayer", "Shockwave" and "Windows Media Player". At first I thought this was something caused by my localized xpi files, that maybe I had forgotten to replace a string that pointed to the right page, but then I noticed that this also happens without the localized xpi files. I even tried to $ grep missingplugins * -R in the locale directory and I got no relevant results, so this link to Mozilla's plugins' page must be located somewhere else. I wouldn't know where else to look for a way to solve this bug, so unfortunately I can't provide a patch. Well, I think that's pretty much it. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work :) Namaste, Leonardo [0] http://leorockway.com.ar/iceceat/IceCatTranslate.py [1] http://www.javatester.org/version.html [2] https://pfs.mozilla.org/plugins/?action=missingplugins&mimetype=application/x-java-vm&appID={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e9$ i686&chromeLocale=en-US&appRelease=3.5.1 [3] https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7 -- KDE Argentina http://www.kde.org.ar #kde-ar @ irc.freenode.net -- () ascii ribbon campaign - against html email /\ www.asciiribbon.org - against proprietary attachments
