Since no one has piped up yet on this, I'll just cough up my two cents. I've noticed poor font rendering -- and font rendering that does not obey my font rendering settings -- on my Ubu 9.10 install using anything other than the Ubuntu Firefox package. I've also noticed the same unpleasantness on other distributions running FF/Iceweasel disto packages or FF/Icecat/Swiftfox downloads. So I am inclined to think that this is a problem with the upstream sources -- and maybe FF 3.5 got lucky in Ubuntu or the Ubuntu packagers patched the problem. (FWIW and IIRC, FF 3 in 9.04 was also "ugly".)
However, it does seem to be the case that: 1) lots of people seem not to notice the difference (CRT users perhaps?), 2) some people seem to *prefer* the ugly rendering, and 3) not a lot of effort seems to be going into nailing the problem. -M ----- Original Message ---- > From: Bruno Miguel <[email protected]> > To: FSF - GNU IceCat <[email protected]> > Cc: Giuseppe Scrivano <[email protected]> > Sent: Sat, April 24, 2010 8:11:53 PM > Subject: Fonts in Icecat 3.6.3 under Ubutu 10.04 RC > > Fonts in Icecat 3.6.3, under Ubutu 10.04 RC, appear with, it seems, a low > anti-aliasing or even no anti-aliasing.
