First of all, thanks for your interest!
Currently we are not planning on making alternatives to Thunderbird and
other Mozilla software. This will be true until we get IceCat to the
point where we can focus all of our efforts on something else. If you'd
like to help, then IceCat is the project that you should contribute to.
For instance, there are many issues with the script that converts the
Firefox language packs into the IceCat ones. There is more detail on
