In any case, I now compiled and installed IceCat 24. However, still, the
question remains how to cleany update to version 27 or whatever newer
version when it is released. What does a GNU/Linux user have to do in this
case? Remove the older version and install the new one? Simply install the
new one over the old one?

Hallo!
I don't want to rush. Simply asking if IceCat 27 is to be released soon,
because I want to avoid compiling and installing IceCat 24 when version 27
is to be released within the next days.
By the way: As a user new to GNU/Linux, I would like to ask how you would
update an existing version of IceCat with a new one? Of course you can use
checkinstall and uninstall an existing version before installing a new
one. But this would delete also all user settings, wouldn't it? So what's
the way for updating software made out of source code?
Best regards,
Dimitris
