We were having this discussion about copyright
years a few days ago. Does this mean it's
ok to keep only the last year, and just omit
earlier ones?

According to

   <http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/>
   Information For Maintainers of GNU Software
      4.4  Copyright Notices

        "The list of year numbers should include
         each year in which you finished
         preparing a version which was actually
         released, and which was an ancestor of
         the current version."
