I have not reviewed it carefully or even tried using it (sorry). I tried using
the previous version of the patch for a few days by setting "GREP_COLOR" all
the time in the shells I use for various work, to see what it's like in
practice, and it's OK, and the changes you have made in this version sound good.
Please could you put a short high-level summary of the change at the beginning
of the ChangeLog entry (purpose, scope, etc.; no mention of implementation
details like function/variable/colour names).
