Bug: grep -o '^.' Prints All Characters.

    $ grep --version
    grep (GNU grep) 2.5.1

    $ pkg version grep
    grep    2.5.1.ds2-6build1
    $ echo abc | grep -o '^.'
    a
    b
    c
    $ 

I think it should print just one line;  `a'.

I'd welcome grep's maintainer's view.
