Thanks. I fully agree with your analysis. It seems that *for years* no
Solaris user ever tried to install groff, otherwise such issues would have
been discovered much earlier :(
Yes, groff has evolved meanwhile, and the best solution is to change the
default macros being the groff ones (for formatting with groff) but still
having compatibility mode switched on, I guess.
I like your --compatibility-mode ideas, and I think it's the way to go.
However, I won't implement that for lack of time, sorry. Hopefully, others
will come up with a helping hand.
