Details:

It was recently discussed on <[email protected]> that including basic style
recommendations into the groff_man(7) manual page would be helpful for manual
page authors, both to make it easier to find low-level idioms needed in manual
pages without requiring authors to read all the whole, long groff(7) and
groff_char(7) manuals, and also to discourage excessive use of low level
syntax that puts portability in jeopardy.

That is a very diverse topic, so i'm focussing on one very specific aspect
here: recommendations for escape sequences.

Note that i'm deliberately not attempting to mix any other issues or
improvements into this patch.

I have ordered the list in ASCII-alphabetic order.
