Follow-up Comment #1:

I'm not crazy about this idea for two reasons:

1. Stripped macro files are write-only anyway.

2. People should be configuring their text editors to show them trailing
space.  It will make their lives better and their work cleaner in multifarious
ways.

For instance, from my .vimrc:
