Thanks for trying. I hesitate to call the behavior
non-deterministic, because it was reproducible with 100%
reliability on my system, but there are obviously many factors
affecting the memory layout of an executable.

Yes, I noticed these too. They are clearly evidence of a bug,
but as it is (as far as I can tell) unrelated to the problem I
encountered, I did not mention it.
