I sympathize with this desire to help the user who wants functionality beyond
what groff offers and may not know that other implementation have it (or that
they even exist).

But to my knowledge, nowhere else does the groff documentation mention other
*roff projects that include functionality absent from groff, so it would have
seemed out of place to do it here.

It would be very helpful to have a table listing all post-AT&T roff
enhancements, and indicating which current roffs implement each one.  But such
a table is outside of groff's scope; it would ideally be maintained by someone
who follows development in all the roffs.  I think it would be appropriate for
groff's documentation to point to such a table if it existed.
