Follow-up Comment #2:
There appears to be no "standard" nroff handling of this table format (see
comment #0 for how badly Unix V7 nroff and Heirloom Doctools nroff handle it),
so it is neither incorrect behavior relative to some other implementation nor
it is really a feature change. I'm putting it into the "Rendering/Cosmetics"
group.
