For cross-referencing, I was going to link to the ticket reporting this, but I
couldn't find it. Some further poking around turned up bug #61675, concerning
the length of the footnote separator, whose comment 2 reminded me that the
creeping-column bug was accidentally fixed as a side effect of that one.
