If they accept parentheses, then they can accept arguments with decimal
fractions. This permits fine tuning of type size and vertical spacing, and
could be valuable for getting a table to "just fit" when laying out a page.
The 'w' modifier already supports decimal fractions as parenthesized
arguments.
