Update of bug #63583 (group groff):
Status: In Progress => Postponed
_______________________________________________________
Follow-up Comment #5:
In a surprise to probably no one, I'm moving this ticket to "postponed" status
(and will remove bug #65099's dependency on it).
I don't see as much urgency for this change as I once did.
On top of an Autoconf macro checking for _terminfo_ library support, I want a
comprehensive test suite, something like a `-d` debug option to disclose the
capability selection and resolution decisions, and, externally, for the
community to decide on a _terminfo_ capability name for hyperlinking support
(see the messages linked in comment #4).
Another nice development is the _less_ pager's recent addition of OSC 8
navigation commands. That feature makes it possible to traverse "man:" (and
other) URLs in _groff_ documents irrespective of terminal support, which
is--in my opinion--a major win because terminal emulator maintainers are a
fractious bunch, and with a noteworthy exception (Thomas Dickey) historically
seem pretty indifferent to quality assurance.
