Revert "[gropdf]: Fix Savannah #67602 (hella bad perf)."
This reverts commit c17c329f34f8fc3e00139115bd66953238447580.
Unfortunately that "fix" introduced incorrect behavior for some
bookmarks, behavior for which we don't have automated tests.
Reopens bug #67602.
