nice completion

  I've applied Klaus's patches into the CVS with additional bug
fix. But I haven't merged the debug code, because I want to make
changes in a different way. I'm going to add --read-only option, which
disables the write code, and --verbose option, which prints out
additional messages for debugging purpose.
