My first priority is code cleanups and docs/grub.texi. The existing
documentation is too vague and outdated, and I hate HTML for searching
and indexing. I keep getting lost in cmdline.c because I don't
understand Erich's clever overloading of variables and lack of
comments.
Once I have enough documentation, then I'll work on making
installation using /sbin/grub easier (part of which will be adding
command-line options to /sbin/grub for noninteractive use, as well as
more useful partition syntaxes like the ones you mentioned).
When that is done, other peoples' changes are merged, and tested, I
think GRUB will be useful enough to call version 1.0.
Adding a new scripting language, serial device support,
internationalization, and/or network booting will all wait until later
(unless somebody gives us patches that we like against the latest
CVS). I think adding those features will be enough changes to bump
GRUB's version to 2.0. ;)
