Floppy-problems w/ Compaq

There seems to be some kind och floppydisk related problem with Compaq
computers. I've first noticed the problem when pressing TAB for listing
devices. The output was:

  Possible disks are: (fd0)

and then the computer hangs. If I try chainloader=(hd everything works OK. 

Also, trying to run install= with floppy-destination also hangs computer.
I've tried this with Deskpro 6000, Armada 4120 and Prolinea 575.
