Chainloading works fine for me.  Did the method in the GRUB
manual not work?

    Boot --> General boot methods --> Chain-loading

e.g. assuming windows in first partition of first disk

title Windows
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

-amcl
