I can't understand what you think "it was unexpected" yet. Please
don't paraphrase what you did actually. What does "the installation
functions" mean? Whenever you report something, please describe what
you really typed in. If it was "make install", say "make install". If
it was "grub-install", say "grub-install". As I've already written how
to report a bug in the documentation (the chapter "Reporting bugs"),
please read it and understand what we need to know, in order to solve
reported problems.

See the chapter "Obtaining and Building GRUB" in the
documentation. The same information is included in the file README as
well. You shouldn't ask information which has already written in the
documentation, unless it isn't enough or it is wrong. Don't take our
time unnecessarily.
