This is because your first mail was to the wrong address.  I admit
that the e-mail addresses at the bottom of grub's homepage are a bit
misleading.

Now to your question.  If you were using Windows before, you should
boot it, and invoke "fdisk /MBR" from the DOS command prompt.  This
will install the old windows boot record again.

You should also invoke "fdisk" without parameters and make sure that
the DOS/Windows-Partition is activated.
