I have downloaded the test version of GRUB (0.5.96), and have a strange
result (for me, but perhaps I make some mistakes).
On one PC, I have two IDE HD, one with Linux, FreeBSD and the place for
HURD, another one with swap, ext2 and a primary partition with Windows
95 (slave HD).
I am trying to find if I can boot Windows on the slave HD using GRUB,
and I have first given a look in order to see if the second disk is
reachable. I use GRUB shell under Debian/GNU Linux, kernel 2.2.14,
potato.
Here is the results :
grub> root (hd1,1)
Filesystem type is fat, partition type 0x6
grub> find /command.
Possible files are: command.dos command.com
grub> find /command.com
Error 15: File not found
Is there a problem with the BIOS (the disk seems to be reachable,
because I'm under Linux, but when GRUB tries to access directly via
BIOS, it doesn't find it ?).
Second attempt :
grub> find (hd1,1)/co
Possible files are: command.dos config.000 config.dos config.sys
command.com
grub> find (hd1,1)/command.com
(hd0,0)
(hd0,1)
(hd0,4)
(hd0,5)
Here, I don't understand the result : how can GRUB tell me it has found
command.com on the partitions of the _first_ drive ?
Another thing. In the NEWS file, it is said that one has to type
--enable-serial at configure time, but the INSTALL file tells that the
option is --disable-serial, i.e. that serial is supported by default
(that seems to be in accordance with the configure script).
