stdlib.h not found?

Hi,
i tried to write a new function for stage2/char_io.c which needs dynamic memory 
allocation.
So I tried to include <stdlib.h> which does not work. Could anyone of you check try to 
include <stdlib.h> in your char_io.c and see if it's possible? Thanks. Volker
