That was true for the series of 3.6.xx patches for the 2.3 and pre-2.4
kernels.  The developer promised to include 3.5.xx support again, when
the development was finished.  But I haven't looked at the 2.4 stable
releases yet.

The patches for 2.2.xx kernels were versioned 3.5.xx, the patches for
2.3/2.4 kernels were versioned 3.6.xx.  Grub supports both major
versions.
