Edit your /etc/lilo.conf file(on redhat and debian anyway)
towards the top there might be a line like "default=linux".
Now if you look farther down the file you will see your
partitions listed, probably similar to
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.0
label=Linux.old
To set the default boot partition, just change the "default="
parameter to the one you want to default to.
