So if the AHA-2940UW BIOS has a buggy int13 implementation, and there is 
no practical way to detect and work around this in the 512 bytes for 
stage1, then there's still one thing I just don't understand:

Why does LILO work?

I'm running LILO with the "lba32" option turned on, so presumably it 
should have been hitting the same flaws.  But it's not.  It works like a 
charm, and always has.

Why?
