GRUB fully supports kernel line paramters.
The line then is
kernel /xxxx/vmlinuz x86_serial_nr=1 <and perhaps other>
You can load the kernel manually by typing this, or simple add the
parameters in the "kernel" line in `menu.lst'.
In lilo `appand="xxx"' is used to pass further command lines.
Advantage of GRUB: If you change or edit the `menu.lst' file, not
reinstallation is needed. If you change something in `lilo.conf'
or if the kernel changes, `lilo' must be run to reinstall itself.
