The patch would be very useful in our environment. We are expecting to roll out a classroom of PCs which will dual-boot Linux and Windows. We will be using Linux almost all the time on them, but occasionally when there are no other computer classrooms available, we need to be able to reboot each host into Windows, yet revert to Linux on the next boot. Keir's patch would make it possible to do this without manual intervention.
Please apply it; it's not a huge patch but I'm sure it'd be useful for more than just me.
