I spoke to quickly... the story: I have 3 hard drives (sdb, sdc, sdd) in grub language, hd0, hd1 and hd2
hd0 is win2k hd1 is rh9 hd2 is similar but more recent install of rh9 (side note: i have 2 processors, hence the smp -- hd2 actually has 2 grub titles 1. hd2,0 as linux 2.4.20-8 and 2. hd2,0 as linux 2.4.20-8smp ) without hd2, grub recognized hd0 and hd1 after installing hd2, grub recognized hd0 and hd2. For hd1, i selected sdc2 on a pull-down menu (I realize now I probably should have selected sdc1, but since grub showed it recognized sdb and sdd2, and since the partitions were same on sdc and sdd, i thought it best to follow suit... Anyway, in the grub menu hd1 data was root rootnoverify chainloader +1 when selected to boot, error 13 popped up. modifying the grub menu the first time, i typed root (hd1,0) chainloader +1 got error 15 modifying the grub menu to reflect the linux on hd1, i typed root (hd1,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8smp ro root=LABEL=/1 hda=ide-scsi initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8smp.img rather than putting me into hd1 tho, this boots me into hd2. What am i doing wrong? How to access hd1? thanks for any info _________________________________________________________________________ PS since it is a pain to have to type all that in every time I boot up into that drive, is there a way to add a new item to the grub menu (esp as i would like to boot into either the lo or high mem of linux for hd1, as I can now for hd2) Thanks for any pointers/info -- you have been great to offer suggestions to me through this... _______________________________________________ Bug-grub mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub
