Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is the right mailing list to ask, but maybe some of you might know the answer to this question. Anyway, here is the issue I am having. I have installed GRUB-gfxboot to a livecd of Morphix (www.morphix.org) from this site : http://neverborn.org/code.html . I have got it working perfectly fine on real pcs; however if you try it on VMware, the graphical menu will either not come up, or will be distorted. I have a screenshot of it at:
http://www.geocities.com/g1powermac/index.htm (labeled VMware screenshot)
If anyone has any reason why the GRUB-gfxboot menu is acting this way on VMware, that would be great.
IIRC, VMware is missing some VGA BIOS functions, or get it wrong as in your case. You can try to complain to them. A bug, I reported 4 years
ago, was fixed lately (getting serial mode 7e2 wrong)...
Good luck, Pete
Are you sure it is bug in VMware ?... In old DOS days when we were using VESA BIOS calls to access highres video modes, most of implementations I looked did use WRONG rendering technique. So in different cards output was still wrong. So basicly they don't remember to figure out real dimensions of virtual screen buffer and therefor effect from that screenshot is quite common in different video cards. So I am goingin to bet this problem can be fixed by correcting code.
Thanks, Vesa Jskelinen
