Found the documentation on rewriting mbr with fdisk and reinitializing second stage bootloader with installboot. Now back to an `as installed' status mbr back to original content. I've elected to scrap grub and go for the simplicity of `gag'. Another boot loader a private poster recommended. Very easy to use...
