Summary: addition to the FAQ (Booting WinXP)
Original Submission: please add to
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-faq.en.html#q10
--- original text
Use the command map, to exchange BIOS drives virtually, like this:
grub> map (hd0) (hd1)
grub> map (hd1) (hd0)
---- !!!NEWLY ADDED TEXT !!!!!!!!
grub> rootnoverify (hd0,0)
Explanation: WinXP can _ONLY_ be booted from the FIRST disk. After you virtually
exchanged the BIOS drives, grub itself also thinks the drives are exchanged. In the
above example this would meen: Windows physically is installed on the primary
partition of the _SECOND_ harddisc. But AFTER virtually exchanging the drives you
adress the WinXP Partition as (hd0,0).

DAMN Sorry!!!!!!!!
It's exactly the OTHER WAY ROUND!!
AFTER virtually exchanging the drives via the map command,
grup STILL thinkso (hd1,0) as the SECOND drive!!!!!!!
The virtual exchannging of drives DOES NOT affect the internal drive numbering of
grub.!!!!!!!!!!
Very bewildering topic.
