A new feature is acceptable, if it satisfies all of these conditions:

1. It does not affect any core feature at all.

2. It does not break compatibility.

3. It is maintained well by one or more people (excluding me) in a long 
term.

4. I am not expected to publish a new version for it.

But, why not GRUB 2? In GRUB 2, we don't need to even care about 
backward compatibility at all.
