Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17043 (project grub):
I've identified the the cause of this problem. It seems that if I add
-boot-info-table to my mkisofs command, the problem goes away.
Reading the mkisofs man page, nowhere does it say that this option is
mandatory, and I can't find a mention of it in the El Torito v1.0 spec.
Perhaps the grub documentation should be modified to mention that the info
table is required by grub?
