Details:

There is a possibility to specify exact kernel location or to use root and
specify the kernel relative to root.

However, both options requre to specify a bios drive number.

In many cases it would be desirable to be able to specify "the drive from
which grub was loaded" because the system is on the same drive as grub. This
way grub would be able to load the system even if the numbering changes.
