Hello!
First of all, is there a reason why your drives are attached to the IDE
channel which corresponds to hdb? That's typically the second channel of the
one that's normally associated with hda for example. (Well normally on my
machines that is.)

And second please refrain from sending HTML mail to the GNU lists such as
this one, it's really frowned upon and can be considered grounds for not
approval of your message. (Google Mail members please take note.)

And then the third thing is that your GRUB arrangement on the SuSe disk is
actually one that's managed by them, its really not supported by us despite
the fact that the original one is being spun-down by us. There should be
notes available from SuSe for appropriate dual booting of a system wearing
such a loader.

And yes for the fourth and final thing it is possible to have your system
setup to boot to SuSe via the GRUB shell, and that's by swapping disks. Also
please check your system's configuration as well.

Subject: reinstalling Grub

Hello,

I use double booting for Suse Linux 10.1 and XP Pro managed by GRUB. Each of
the 2 OS is on a different hard drive. hdb1 is running XP and hdb2 Linux.

I recently ad to reinstall XP and, hence, lost GRUB double booting. To
reinstall it I used instructions in 3918735 created and modified on 20
November 2006.

After "reboot" I got the following message: "Grub --install copies GRUB
images into the DIR/ boot directory specified by --root.directory and uses
the Grub shell to install grub into the boot" "[email protected]"

When I rebooted, GRUB is not detected. The system goes directly to hdb1 and
boots from XP.

Do you have a correction for GRUB reinstallation?
could it be that I should replace hdb2 by hdb1 where GRUB booter belongs?

Thanks for your help
