Hi, I recently installed Zenwalk 5.2 to a multiboot pc with NTFS, FAT32, ext3 and swap partitions on an 80G ide drive. I did not install lilo (or any bootloader) for zenwalk, because I plan to install at least a couple more OS's (including W2K) before working out a booting strategy. In the meantime, I planned to boot from floppy using GRUB.
With a simple GRUB floppy (stage 1 & 2, no menu.lst), this has not been an issue. I simply key in: root (hd1,6) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sdb7 boot ...and it boots up zenwalk no problem. However, when I attempt to boot from a full GRUB floppy, with the same entry in the menu.lst, GRUB complains that there is not a valid file system on the partition. In fact, when I type in: null (hd1,6)/ [tab] from the prompt, I get the same complaint. I am able to 'see' the other partitions on the drive using this method (including sdb8, an empty ext3 right after to sdb7), just not the one zenwalk is installed to. I don't mind booting from the command line but I need something a little more elegant for another user who is new to linux (and cli in general). Also, eventually I would like to eventually install GRUB to hdd, and boot from the MBR, and I'm a little concerned about this. Incidentally I have experienced the same issue on another pc, where I can boot ubuntu gutsy and fedora 8 from a full-grub-on-floppy menu.lst entries, but not opensuse: grub can't recognize the particular partition. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Simple-grub-can-%27see%27-partition--full-grub-can%27t-tp17906609p17906609.html Sent from the Grub - Bugs mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ Bug-grub mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub
