ChangeLog says this has been fixed as of 2008-05-07
In case it isn't working for anyone and you're sure that your grub2 version
is later then this date, please remind that device.map is by default only
created if it doestn't exist, so call `grub-mkdevicemap' or `grub-install'
with `--recheck'
