I will have to examine the page in question, but actually the discussion
currently running on the GRUB2 development list is actually discussing what
I believe you are looking at doing. And naturally Yoshi (The project admin
for both) does want someone to assist in the managing of GRUB Legacy.

Ideally the webpage there does explain _exactly_ what you would need to
actively support our project. There are other things to consider. Please
consider joining this list to see what else is needed.
