Follow-up Comment #2, bug #26237 (project grub):
With the attached patch, 'insmod ohci' no longer crashes. But
* 'insmod uhci' still hangs the computer. If I set debug=uhci, then module
loading completes but 'usb' resets the computer.
* 'insmod ohci' completes, but doesn't seem to register the usb ports or the
attached devices. 'usb' returns blank.
