I am reporting this issue for Ubuntu user. The original report is at

When running update-grub call to grub-probe is killed with SIGKILL
$ sudo grub-probe -v --target=device /
grub-probe: info: the size of hd0 is 976773168
grub-probe: info: the size of hd0 is 976773168
grub-probe: info: the size of hd0 is 976773168
Killed
The is reproducible and from duplicates seem to hit only x86_64 archs.
